And I will stretch over Jerusalem the line of Samaria, and the plummet of the house of Ahab: and I will wipe Jerusalem as a man wipeth a dish, wiping it, and turning it upside down.
I will measure Jerusalem for destruction just like I did with Samaria and the family of Ahab. I will wipe Jerusalem completely clean, like someone washing a dish—scrubbing it clean and turning it upside down to dry.
God is saying He will completely destroy and empty Jerusalem because of their sins, just as He destroyed other wicked places before.
📚 Historical Context
This prophecy was given during the reign of King Manasseh, one of Judah's most wicked kings who led the people into idol worship and even sacrificed his own son. Samaria (the northern kingdom of Israel) had already been destroyed by the Assyrians in 722 BC, and King Ahab's dynasty had been wiped out for their evil practices. God is warning that Jerusalem and Judah will face the same fate if they don't repent.
